LITS Innovations in Digital Pedagogy Fellowships: Call for Applications

By Nhora Lucia Serrano

We are thrilled to share that Library & Information Technology Services invites applications for Innovations in Digital Pedagogy Fellowships for the 2021-22 academic year.

Fellows will be selected based on their proposal for a project that leads to the development of course assignments or teaching strategies that:

  • innovate with digitally-enabled pedagogies;
  • infuse digital capabilities into student learning; or
  • explore the social significance of digital technologies.

In support of these aims, the fellowships offer faculty:

  • opportunities to collaborate with LITS professionals at a level beyond what is typically possible during traditional course support;
  • a year-long development timeline for the creation and implementation of new assignments or teaching strategies;
  • the potential to explore pedagogical technologies not currently supported by LITS; and
  • a stipend of $1,500 per project.

Please read below more information and details on the fellowship requirements, selection criteria, application process, and fellowship timeline.

The project proposals are due Monday, May 31st, 2021. Please note that all interested faculty are required to set up a meeting in April, in advance of submitting their application; please request a meeting via askus@hamilton.edu.

After your April meeting, please submit your application as an attached document (word doc or PDF) that speaks to the selection criteria listed below. Please send your attachment to askus@hamilton.edu.

Fellowship Requirements

The structure of the fellowship projects and related activities could take many forms, but bold initiatives and collaboration are especially valued. Prospective fellows must:

  • Propose a project that leads to a new or substantially revised assignment or pedagogical approach for a course taught by the end of the 2022-23 academic year;
  • Commit to collaborating with LITS professionals to develop a project timeline, define learning objectives, and identify technologies best suited to their goals;
  • Take responsibility for the bulk of the production of their project or assignment;
  • Complete a prototype of any assignment they design in order to better assess whether it meets their pedagogical objectives;
  • Meet with the other fellows and their teams before the beginning of the fall semester to share ideas and discuss challenges;
  • Submit a mid-project report;
  • Share pedagogy materials with LITS and complete a survey about your fellowship experience; and
  • Participate in a panel discussion for interested faculty following the conclusion of the fellowship.

Selection Criteria

  • Scope: The proposed project describes a proposed course/assignment/idea, including a goal and anticipated results.
  • Significance & Strategic Value: The proposed project will have significant value for our students, and helps them to develop digital skills, capacities, and critical perspectives, including ethical evaluation.
  • Sustainability: The proposed project has a) a plan for measuring its success and b) the potential to scale beyond a pilot phase to other classrooms, units, departments and/or schools, either directly or by providing a compelling example for adoption.
  • Support and Partnership: The proposed project receives endorsement from participating academic unit(s), and technical and administrative support has been identified and deemed feasible (such as investigation of possible software or platform needs, infrastructure and support staff requirements, and timeline to implementation).
