The Jeff Little ’71
2014 Volunteer of the Year Award
Citation for Linda Johnson ’80

Five years ago, while immersed in the effort to renovate and expand Hamilton’s arts facilities, you spoke about your commitment to the work. As chair of the Board of Trustees’ Committee on Buildings, Grounds and Equipment and its Subcommittee on Arts Facilities, you said students should have the opportunity to explore and stretch their boundaries, as you did. “If I were to say one thing about my experience,” you told a reporter from The Spectator, “the beauty of a liberal arts education is the opportunity it gives you to expose yourself to things that you might never have known existed, and I made the most of that.”

And you gave back. Your hard work and leadership helped transform from concept to reality the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art and The Kevin and Karen Kennedy Center for Theatre and the Studio Arts. It is fitting, given your passion for the arts, that an exhibition gallery in the Kennedy Center is dedicated in your honor.

A member of Hamilton’s Board of Trustees since 1998, you balance volunteer work for your alma mater with service on the executive committee of the board of the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City and as an advisory director of the Metropolitan Opera, among other activities. This is in addition to your job as president and CEO of the Brooklyn Public Library. Your post-Hamilton path has been productive and varied: earning an MBA and a law degree, practicing environmental and education law, joining your family’s information services and data management company and now leading nonprofits.

For your steadfast support of Hamilton, and especially for your vision that led to facilities for the arts that will enhance the lives of generations of faculty and students, the Alumni Association takes great pride in presenting you with the inaugural Jeff Little ’71 Volunteer of the Year Award, named in honor of your friend and fellow champion of the arts, Jeff Little.
