Medication

The Hamilton College Student Health Center does not have a full-service pharmacy and cannot fill prescriptions written by clinicians outside the Center. The Center does stock a limited selection of commonly prescribed medications to dispense at the time of service if needed.

If prescription medicine is recommended by a Hamilton clinician students have the option to:

  • Pick up the prescription at a local pharmacy of their choice
  • Order the medication from Kinney Drugs in Clinton for free delivery to the health center after an account has been set up with the pharmacy, or CVS in Clinton for USPS delivery to their campus mailbox.  Controlled substances cannot be delivered and must be picked up in person.
  • We do not accept prescription deliveries from other outside entities.

Prescription Delivery Policy

Kinney Drugs will deliver prescriptions to the Hamilton College Health Center during health center business hours during the regular academic year.  The health center is closed for all College breaks including summer.  Students wishing to have prescriptions delivered to the health center must sign an Authorization for Release of Medication Form when picking up their prescription, granting the pharmacy permission to release the prescription to the health center.

It is the responsibility of the student to pick up their medication in a timely fashion.  After one week, the health center will remind students via email that the prescription has not yet been picked-up from the health center. Prescriptions not picked up within 30 days will be discarded. Pharmacies in New York are not allowed to accept returns of prescription medication once they have left the pharmacy.

Note: Students who take prescribed medication regularly should discuss with their prescriber and parents how to obtain refills while at Hamilton. Some students obtain refills while home on breaks or have their doctor prescribe directly to a local pharmacy, some arrange to have their prescription mailed to their campus mailbox. It is best to arrange this ahead of time before the medication runs out.

**The health center cannot accept deliveries of controlled substances.  These medications must be picked up in person directly at the pharmacy.
