Mollie H. Wright, a rising junior at Hamilton College, received a stipend from the Ralph E. Hansmann Science Student Support Fund to study how mutant bacteria transform carbon tetrachloride in iron-respiration of surface proteins. The Ralph E. Hansmann Science Students Support Fund is given to support research in all sciences and mathematics. Her faculty advisor is Assistant Professor of Biology Michael L. McCormick.

Christine Campbell, a rising senior at Hamilton College, received a stipend from the Ralph E. Hansmann Science Students Support Fund to study the role of programmed cell death in the development of down feathers in chicken embryos.

Hamilton Basketball Head Coach Tom Murphy begins his two-week long basketball camps this week. The Hamilton camp is a day camp that goes from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and involves instruction, drills, and lecture for basketball players of all ages. Each week is split up by age groups according to player’s school grade and/or age.

Adam Morris, son of Thomas and Jean Morris of Fairchild Road in Remsen and a rising junior at Hamilton College, received a stipend from the Ralph E. Hansmann Science Students Support Fund to research parent training techniques to improve treatment for children who have experienced trauma.

Malcolm F. Dias Jr., a rising sophomore at Hamilton College, received a stipend from the GE Fund to research a way to size down a neutron polarizer into a more practical volume for application in the field.

The Fort Worth Brahmas, a professional hockey team of the CHL, hired former player and Hamilton alumnus Sean Brady '96 as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2003-2004 season. For Brady, who retired as a player in January of 2001, this will be his first opportunity as the coach of a professional hockey team.

Professor of Anthropology Douglas Raybeck was quoted in a Salon magazine article, "A Nation of Scared Sheep." The article addresses Americans lack of concern with war and terror over the past two years. Raybeck said this national aloof attitude is an example of the dissonance theory. The dissonance theory shows that people sift out information for the purpose of strengthening their already existent beliefs. He said, "Dissonance theory appears part of general human psychology, but cultures such as our own, that place a premium on individuality, are particularly subject to its influence."

Tsakane Ngobeni, Hamilton College Class of 2007, was featured in an article by the Sunday Times, a popular newpaper in Ngobeni's home country of South Africa. Ngobeni is a HEOP scholar who hopes to play for the Hamilton men's basketball team. Ngobeni said he came to Hamilton to become "fully prepared for life."

Hamilton College Men’s Ice Hockey Coach Phil Grady and SUNY Fredonia Men’s Ice Hockey Coach John Meredith started the Hamilton Ice Hockey Camp together 19 years ago. Since then the four-week long (first two for boys and the last two for girls) camp has grown to such popularity that there is a waiting list at least 150 names long every year of eager young hockey players. Coach Grady commented, “The amazing thing about the popularity of the camp is that we do no advertising at all, everything comes from word of mouth as the result of a good experience.”

The Rochester Patriots Drum and Bugle Corps spent a week of its six-week training period at Hamilton College, from June 23-28. The Rochester Patriots consist of a four-part team, the color guard, horns, percussion and the pit. They are a diverse group, gathering people from all over the nation and the world to march and perform with the team.
