Hamilton College is mourning the death of former president Harry C. Payne, who died unexpectedly on Monday in Atlanta. In announcing the death to the campus community, President Joan Hinde Stewart said, "On behalf of Hamilton, I extend our deepest sympathy to Hank's wife Deborah and the Payne family."

The women's soccer team, two cross country runners and the men's rugby team all advanced in national competition.

The Hamilton College Exiles men's rugby team, which won its second consecutive Division III New York State Championship last Saturday, looks to remain unbeaten when it hosts William Paterson University Saturday for the Eastern Regional title.

The second test of Hamilton's new campuswide emergency communications system will take place on Monday, Oct. 29. All Hamilton students and employees will receive a phone call, e-mail and/or text message between 11 and 11:30 a.m.

With the announcement that Al Gore would share this year's Nobel Peace Prize, the Sacerdote Great Names Series at Hamilton has now hosted five winners of the prestigious award. They include Jimmy Carter (Hamilton's Great Names speaker in 2001), Desmond Tutu (the speaker in 2000), F.W. de Klerk (1998) and Elie Wiesel (1997). Gore spoke at Hamilton in April 2007.

Two Hamilton graduates are quoted, and their companies featured, in the Oct. 7th special issue of Fortune magazine devoted to leadership. In an article titled “Leader Machines,” writer Geoff Colvin asserts “… the world’s best companies are realizing that no matter what business they’re in, their real business is building leaders.”

Hamilton President Joan Hinde Stewart and 18 of her presidential colleagues have pledged to make available to prospective students and their families all possible useful information about their colleges, while at the same time de-emphasizing the role that rankings should play in the admission process.

Alumni, parents and friends of Hamilton College contributed $30.8 million during the fiscal year that ended June 30, an increase of 45 percent over the previous year and 32 percent more than the previous record, set a decade ago.

The New England-style village of Clinton, N.Y., has been transformed into an outdoor walking art gallery as part of a summertime promotion by the local Chamber of Commerce and the Kirkland Art Center.

The Hamilton College Alumni Association today announced the results of its Alumni Trustee election. Nancy Roob ’87, Torrence D. Moore ’92 and George D. Baker Jr. ’74 received the greatest number of votes, as certified by Elections USA, an independent firm contracted to manage the election, and will join the College's Board of Trustees, effective July 1, 2007. Each year three Alumni Trustees are elected to serve four-year terms on the Board. A total of 3,638 ballots (20% of alumni) were cast by the March 20, 2007, deadline, with the results as follows:   Nancy Roob ’87 - 2312   Torrence D.
