Heart Month Programming
February Health Programs
Surveys show Monday holds significant influences on beginning a new routine, particularly exercise, and is a powerful time to engage your efforts. The Monday Mile is a fun, weekly walk that promotes wellness, relationship-building with your community, requires minimal time, and is a low-impact activity while offering mental and physical health benefits.
* How do I participate?
Participation is simple!
- Pick up a Monday Mile Passport card from the Fitness Center front desk (available beginnig Jan. 30th). Or, print your own
- Make the time to complete a mile each Monday for the remainder of the Spring 2025 semester. Most people will complete a 1-mile walk in around 20 minutes.
- Complete 1 mile via your method of choice. We have a designated campus loop (see attached map), indoor track, outdoor track, treadmills in the Fitness Center, or perhaps you have a favorite route of your own!
- Make a point to meet with others at a location of your choice, or use 1 of 4 muster points around campus if you're going outside. The outdoor route is flat, keeps to sidewalks, is well-lit and maintained
- Grab a friend or colleague, or reach out to someone new and make a plan to Monday Mile together.
- FOR SUPERVISORS: need to snag a brief meeting with a few employees? Consider a walking meeting! Set your agenda, rendezvous point, and accomplish both at the same time.
* Need more convincing?
- ***Employees**** who take part in the program can earn Monday Mile & Hamilton Wellness swag!
- Pick up your Monday Mile passport card from the fitness center front desk to track your progress. They will be collected at the end of the semester.
- When you complete a Monday Mile, cross off a shoe in that month. Milestones will be rewarded with different levels of prizes at the end of the semester.
* Are there any other rules?
- You can make this program your own. Feeling adventurous and want to extend the distance? Fine!
- Already a regular runner or walker? Earn credit for your existing routine!
- Using and submitting the passport card is based on the honor system. All submitted cards will earn Hamilton Wellness swag, and entry into additional raffle prizes!
- The program runs February 3rd through May 12th
- Build friendships and have fun!

Heart health screenings are offered once per semester, free of charge, through the Bassett Healthcare Network's division of Occupational Health. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Knowing your numbers is an instrumental step in understanding your current heart health status and a great way to provide a road map of important next steps to improve any areas of concern. Employees will receive a blood pressure reading, cholesterol and glucose level assessment, basic physical metrics analysis, and on-the-spot review of all results with a medical provider. 15 minutes is all it will take to establish your cardiac profile! Repeat assessments are encouraged to evaluate changes.
Registration required for an appointment slot.
