Course Description:

Why have we not cured cancer yet? There are many good ways to answer the question. By the end of this course, you will be able to articulate a dozen valid explanations and reframe these challenges as future research, healthcare, and policy goals. Through analysis and discussion of recent primary literature, we will explore the complex genetics and epigenetics of the group of diseases we call malignant neoplasms. Topics include mutations that drive tumor progression, phenotypes of malignant cells, interactions of cancer cells with their environment, techniques for studying cancer biology, and therapies used in modern oncology.
