Inequality and Equity
The Program on Inequality and Equity investigates the factors that affect the distribution of income, distribution of health outcomes, impact of policy on intergenerational equity, welfare analysis, discrimination, access to the legal system and the role of incentives, race, gender, and immigration. One such program is called Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA, a service learning program). In the past, we have brought Robert P. Moses '56, Elizabeth Mitchell Armstrong, and Ronald Ferguson to campus to speak on inequality and equity.
John Bartle, director of the Program on Inequality and Equity, attended Indiana University, where he earned his master's and Ph.D. Bartle’s recent work includes The Refugee Project, a collaborative effort of Hamilton faculty and students to document the lives of refugee communities in Central New York. Project members have interviewed more than 30 refugees, completed two short films and are building an interactive archive.
