In compliance with New York State legislation S.2060-A/A.3694-A, which requires colleges and universities to report and post incidents of hate crime offenses, Campus Safety maintains a log of hate crimes that have occurred at or on the grounds of the institution and been reported to the Campus Safety.

When an incident is reported to Campus Safety, if it is a suspected hate crime, it is then reported to law enforcement. It is law enforcement who determines the final classification of the incident.

It is important to note that while all hate crimes are bias incidents, not all bias incidents are hate crimes. The legislation uses Penal Law section 485.05 for the definition of “hate crime.” For additional information on hate crimes and bias incidents, please see our Bias Crimes Compliance Statement.
