Cheng Li, the William R. Kenan Professor of Government, was quoted in an article in The Financial Times profiling Chen Deming, the official likely to become the next minister of China's National Development and Reform Committee (NDRC). Chen already serves as vice-minister of the NRDC, China's chief economic planning agency and one of Beijing's most powerful ministries. Commenting on Chen's rise in stature and power, Li stated "He is a rising star. I think in a few years, he will become one of the top decision-makers on economic policy in the country."

Li, internationally recognized as an expert on China's leadership, was also quoted by Reuters and The China Post in articles reporting on a corruption case involving former Beijing vice-mayor Liu Zhihua.

Additional media interviews in which Cheng Li recently engaged included two interviews with the BBC World Service. In the first, he discussed U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick's resignation and its impact on U.S. - China relations, and in the second BBC interview, he commented on the recently released Amnesty International report detailing China's sale of weapons to countries with a history of human rights violations. Li was also heard on the Voice of America discussing Chinese President Hu Jintao's expressed willingness to visit Japan.
