  • Jenn Holderied-Webb '98 has been appointed to the board of advisors of EcoRooms & EcoSuites, an online directory of environmentally responsible hotels, motels, inns and B&Bs. An article in Hotel & Motel Management (10/05/07) noted Holderied-Webb's appointment, referenced her "outstanding qualifications" and praised her role in managing the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort, located in Lake Placid, N.Y.

  • Director of Outdoor Leadership Andrew Jillings snagged first place in another long distance canoe and kayak race. Although not quite as arduous at the 460-mile Yukon River Quest Jillings won last June, "The 90-Miler" still offered Jillings and his partner a challenge. The 25th anniversary canoe and kayak race from Old Forge to Saranac Lake was held from Sept. 7 to 9.

  • Prints by three artists associated with Hamilton College, Professor of Art Bruce Muirhead, Jake Muirhead '86, and Dan Wittenberg '07, have been selected for the juried Washington Printmakers National Small Works 2007 Exhibition. Of the nearly 500 images submitted, juror Greg Jecmen, associate curator of old prints at the National Gallery of Art, selected 27 works. The exhibition runs from July 31 to August 26.

  • Summer is always a busy time for physical plant employees and this summer is no exception. From major renovation projects to minor changes, many campus facilities will be modified or updated by employees and outside contractors.

  • Edward Walker '62, Christian A. Johnson Distinguished Professor of Global Political Theory and former U.S. ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Israel, presented his views on current U.S. relations in the Middle East as a featured speaker during Reunion Weekend on Saturday, June 2.

  • The Hamilton College Classics Department will host students from Colgate University, Skidmore and Union Colleges on Friday, April 20 as they join Hamilton students for a day long conference on the classics.

  • Participants in Boston's Citizen Schools program 8th Grade Academy spent three days and two nights exploring the Hamilton campus earlier this month. This visit marks the third straight year that students have had the opportunity to visit Hamilton.  Citizen Schools is a national education initiative utilizing adult volunteers to help improve student achievement through skill-building apprenticeships, rigorous academic and leadership development activities and real world learning projects.

  • Derek Jones, the Irma M. and Robert D. Morris Professor of Economics, chaired a session and presented a paper at the Association of Comparative Economics Conference, part of the Allied Social Sciences Conference, in Chicago on Jan. 6.The paper, titled “Teams, Performance-Related Pay, Profit Sharing and Productive Efficiency: Evidence from a Food-Processing Plant” was co-authored by Panu Kalmi and Antti Kauhanen, both members of the Helsinki School of Economics faculty. The authors assembled and analyzed new panel data to investigate the impact of important changes in human resource practices on firm performance for a food-processing plant.

  • Visiting Professor of Film Studies and F.I.L.M. Director, Scott MacDonald, is featured in the current issue of the Quarterly Review of Film and Video (Volume 24, No. 1) in an article titled “Nathaniel Dorsky and Larry Jordan on Stan Brakhage, Maya Deren, and Bruce Conner: A Conversation Edited by Scott MacDonald."

  • Cheng Li, William R. Kenan Professor of Government, has written an article, “China's Inner-Party Democracy: Toward a System Of ‘One Party, Two Factions’?,” posted on the front page of the Jamestown Foundation Web site. Li writes about two coalitions, the “elitist” and the “populist,” and the ongoing balancing of power between these two groups within the Chinese Communist Party. He describes these developments as an evolving “system of ‘one Party, two factions’.”
