Cheng Li, the William R. Kenan Professor of Government, is among eight Chinese Americans invited to join the Committee of 100, a national organization of prominent Chinese American leaders.  Among those who are joining the Committee of 100 with Li are Wing T. Chao, vice chairman-Asian development for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts; Leroy Chiao, an astronaut and entrepreneur; Wei Christianson, CEO and managing drrector of Morgan Stanley China; and Kai-Fu Lee, vice president at Google.

"The Committee of 100 is proud to welcome these eight prominent Chinese Americans," commented Gen. John Fugh, chairman of the Committee of 100. "The breadth and depth of their experience will add greatly to our efforts …"

Li is a director of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations and a member of The Academic Advisory Group of the Congressional U.S.-China Working Group. He is also a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution where he is a member of the China Initiative (http://www.brookings.edu/fp/china/staff.htm), a group of scholars who develop independent analysis and policy recommendations to help U.S. and Chinese leaders address key long-term challenges, both in terms of U.S.-China relations and China's internal development.

Founded in 1989 by renowned architect I.M. Pei along with other prominent Chinese Americans, the Committee of 100 (www.committee100.org) is an independent, non-profit membership organization composed of Chinese American leaders in a broad range of professions. Its dual mission is to "encourage stronger relationships between the people of the U.S. and Greater China and to encourage the full participation of Chinese Americans in all aspects of American life."
