The Emerson Gallery will host an artist's talk by Native Perspectives artist Shelley Niro (Mohawk). Niro will speak on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 4:15 p.m. in the Science Center Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

Native Perspectives features nine new and recent works by contemporary First Nations artists Niro and George Longfish (Seneca / Tuscarora) which affirm the creative survival of Indigenous consciousness and offer some answers to the question of what a Native perspective is concerned with. Niro and Longfish are two of the most important contemporary Native artists working in North America today and are critically engaged with the problem of decolonization. Their works are predominantly concerned with discerning the truth from lies, the acknowledgement of spirit and memory, communication, and dialogue - often expressed with humor and irony. The exhibition will be open through Dec. 30.

The Emerson Gallery is located on the Hamilton College campus in Clinton, New York, in the Christian A. Johnson Hall, directly behind the Chapel. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. For further information, including information on parking and wheelchair accessibility, please contact the Emerson Gallery at 315-859-4396 or consult the gallery Web site at http://www.hamilton.edu/gallery.
