Controller and Director of Budgets Matthew P. Orlando received the Rising Star Award from the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) at the Annual NACUBO Convention in Hawaii on July 8.

Rising Star Award winners are recognized for their efforts and leadership in one or more of the following areas: promoting and enhancing business practices, organizational development, institutional effectiveness, improvement in productivity and technology and infrastructure enhancements.

Orlando, who came to the Hill from Saint Xavier University in 2003, was recognized for his work both at Hamilton and Saint Xavier. Partnering with the information technology service departments, Orlando was instrumental in the design and implementation of new business processes at both institutions. At Saint Xavier he automated accounts receivable functions. At Hamilton he developed online budget tools that reduced budget development time from months to weeks and Web-based budget reporting. He also introduced submission tools that save campus budget managers weeks of work each year while improving budget management. A new human resources/payroll system that he implemented allowed a deduction in business office staff and sparked a campus-wide staffing review.
