Associate Director for Digital Innovation, Learning and Research Nhora Serrano was among the contributors to a toolkit that recently earned the AM&P Network 2023 EXCEL Award. The Coalition for Diversity and Inclusion in Scholarly Communications (C4DISC) Antiracism Toolkit for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color toolkit won in the “Promotional Content: Pro Bono” category.
According to Serrano, she, along with other members of the team that created it, developed the toolkit to “discuss issues BIPOC individuals commonly face while navigating the scholarly publishing industry, provide critical reflections on building solidarity between BIPOC, and offer practical advice and resources for networking, navigating careers, building a support system, and prioritizing self-care.”
The collaborative toolkit draws from and is the product of “BIPOC-identifying publishing professionals of all levels from across the United States and Canada, [who] envision it to be a conversation between us, as well as a resource for future generations of BIPOC workers who will enter the academic publishing industry,” Serrano said.
