What does it mean to have “equal access” to higher education in different cultures? Kureem Nugent ’18, recipient of a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship intends to spend the next year answering just that. He said his experience at a small liberal arts college as a first-generation student will lead him to explore how cultural capital plays a role in the path to higher education.

The Hamilton in NYC program recently heard from Chris Nagy, director of research and education at Mianus River Gorge Preserve – an independent, not-for-profit organization which works to preserve the Mianus River watershed and undertakes scientific research and public education throughout the region.

His talk was titled "Raising Wildlife Awareness in New York City," in which he discussed the controversies and challenges to managing residents' expectations of their interactions with wildlife.

The Hamilton in NYC program continued its exploration of urban ecology on Feb. 7 with a guest presentation from Andrea Townsend, Hamilton assistant professor of biology. Townsend, whose research deals with urban bird ecology, gave a talk titled "The Urban Exploiter: what makes an urban animal?"
