  • Students in the Semester in Washington Program met with U.S. Representative Richard Hanna of New York’s 24th District on Oct. 12. Rep. Hanna fielded a variety of questions from the group about his experiences as a new member of the House of Representatives and about the issues confronting the 112th Congress.

  • A paper titled “Macroeconomic conditions and technical trading profitability in foreign exchange markets” and co-authored by Henry Platt Bristol Professor of Economics Ann Owen and Brent Palmer ’11 has been published in Applied Economics Letters. The article was a result of work that Palmer did last year as part of his senior honors thesis which Owen supervised.

  • Kerry Coughlin '11 is currently volunteering with the Peace Corps in Moldova. After ten weeks of job, language, and cultural training, she was sworn in on Aug. 17 as an English Education volunteer. She is now living with a host family in the village of Taraclia and teaching the English language to students in grades 2-12.

  • Head Tennis Coach Jared Luteran has announced that Greg Kreitzer '11 will be the new assistant tennis coach at Allegheny College. The men's team is currently 2-0 and the women are 1-1. Kreitzer was captain of the men's tennis team at Hamilton.  In 2010-11, he was selected to the NESCAC All-Academic and All-Sportsmanship teams and chosen as an ITA Scholar Athlete. He was a two-time recipient of the Hamilton Scholar Athlete Award

  • Assistant Professor of Chemistry Nicole L. Snyder and Taylor P. Adams ’11 recently published a book chapter on the Dimroth reaction in Jie Jack Li’s Named Organic Reaction series book Named Reactions in Heterocyclic Chemistry II.

  • The Huffington Post has published an article by Lesley Ryder '11 titled "After Hamilton, Chasing a Dream." Ryder reflects on her experiences as a Hispanic student at Hamilton, beginning with her participation in the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education opportunity program (HEOP) the summer before her freshman year.

  • Disadvantaged children in struggling schools are often not given a chance to succeed, and public school systems are sometimes unable to find the resources to encourage or inspire some of their students. Emma Simmons ’11 is working as a teaching fellow for Citizen Schools, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering students from struggling schools across the country.
