Robert Hayden ’14 has been awarded a research/study Fulbright Grant to Copenhagen, Denmark. He will spend the 2014-15 academic year studying epidemiology and the development of medicines, and apply that coursework to biomedical research with the Copenhagen Hepatitis C (CO-HEP) Program group under the direction of Professor Jens Bukh. Hayden is a biochemistry and molecular biology major at Hamilton.

Associate Professor of Chemistry Myriam Cotten gave an invited seminar presentation at the University of Maryland (Shady Grove) on March 24. Her talk titled “Bridging Structure, Dynamics, and Function in Antimicrobial Peptides: Insights from Studying Piscidin” focused on her ongoing research on how antimicrobial peptides recognize and kill bacteria.

An article by Professor of Geosciences and Upson Chair of Public Discourse Barbara Tewksbury was published in the Geological Society of America’s journal, Geology. Titled “Polygonal faults in chalk: Insights from extensive exposures of the Khoman Formation, Western Desert, Egypt,” the article appeared online on April 15 and will be included in the June print edition.

Jorge L. Mendieta, a senior geosciences major, presented a poster titled “Plymouth Long Beach, MA and Winthrop Beach, MA: An Analysis of Coastal Protection Projects” at the 49th Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America (GSA) - Northeastern Section. The conference was held March 23-25 in Lancaster, Pa.

Associate Professor of Biology Mike McCormick presented at a meeting of the Dark Energy Biosphere Institute held at the University of Southern California, April 9-11. McCormick discussed the results of a high-resolution survey of the microbial communities and geochemistry throughout the water column and sediments of Green Lake in Fayetteville, N.Y.

William Lands, a nutritional biochemist who is among the world’s foremost authorities on essential fatty acids, will give a lecture titled “Put Basic Science into Your Personal Health,” on Wednesday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m., in the Chapel.

Associate Professor of Chemistry Myriam Cotten is the corresponding author of a paper that was selected as the cover story in the March 5 print edition of the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS).

Five members of Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology, volunteered at the Walk for Autism fundraiser in Oneida on April 5. April is Autism Awareness Month and the walk was held to benefit The Kelberman Center in Utica, a regional center for excellence for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.  The center was founded by Michael Kelberman ’80.

Emma L. Hedley, a senior in the Geosciences Department, presented a poster titled “Beach Nourishment at Virginia Beach, Virginia” at the 49th Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America - Northeastern Section.  Hedley’s work in coastal geology was presented as a poster in the Coastal/Marine Science session and her abstract was published in GSA Abstracts with Programs Vol. 46, No. 2.

William D. Tifft ’14, a senior in the Geosciences Department, presented a poster titled “A Reference Collection of Middle Devonian, Upper Hamilton Group Brachiopods from the Geer Road Quarry in Eaton, New York” at the 49th Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America - Northeastern Section.Tifft's work in paleontology was presented as a poster in the Geologic Education session and his abstract was published in GSA Abstracts with Programs Vol. 46, No. 2.
