  • Lisa Yang ’17 and Aida Shadrav ’17 have been awarded Gilman International Scholarship Program awards for undergraduate study abroad. Yang plans to study in China through the Associated Colleges in China (ACC) program this summer and Shadrav will study in Spain this fall through the Hamilton College Academic Year in Spain.

  • Six outstanding Hamilton women scientists have been named Clare Boothe Luce Undergraduate Research Scholars for the upcoming summer.  The awardees this year are Alex Betrus ’18, Katherine Fuzesi ’17, Vi Pham ’18, Linnea Sahlberg ’17, Isabella Schoning ’16, and Emily Sears ’17.

  • Chemistry major Liz DaBramo ’15 is the recipient of a 2015 Undergraduate Student Award from the New York Section of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy (NYSAS). The award recognizes DaBramo’s research efforts, specifically her work with mass spectrometry, during her four years at Hamilton.

  • Rebecca Rees ’16 and Andrew Fletcher ’17 have been awarded Coccia Foundation Scholarships for study abroad in Italy this summer. The Coccia Foundation was established in 1994 by Cavaliere Joseph Coccia, Jr. and his wife Elda as an organization dedicated to the preservation and celebration of Italian culture, especially among younger generations at the college level.

  • Senior chemistry major Liz DaBramo was the champion and Sabrina Yurkofsky and M.E. Ficarra were first and second runners-up, respectively, in the inaugural Hamilton College Three Minute Thesis competition held May 2 in the Taylor Science Center’s Kennedy Auditorium.

  • Professor of Chemistry Karen Brewer presented “Synthesis and spectroscopic studies of rare-earth doped sol-gel and nanocrystalline materials” on April 17 as part of the Chemistry Colloquium at Bryn Mawr College.

  • Associate Professor of Chemistry Myriam Cotten attended the Scialog conference “Molecules Come to Life” at Biosphere 2 near Tucson, Az., March 12-15. Scialog was a multi-disciplinary gathering of physicists, chemists and biologists sponsored by Research Corporation for Science Advancement (RCSA) and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.

  • Associate Professor of Chemistry Myriam Cotten was recently named a Cottrell Scholar by the Research Corporation for Science Advancement (RCSA). The awards are granted to teacher-scholars of chemistry, physics and astronomy through a peer-review process.

  • Five Hamilton students attended the 249th American Chemical Society National Meeting and Exposition held in Denver from  March 21 to March 26. Attendees were seniors Esther Cleary, Liz DaBramo, and Jordan Graziadei along with sophomores Mia Kang and Rich Wenner. Students participated in a variety of seminars representing a large breadth of chemistry and networked with industry professionals and representatives of graduate programs.

  • Biochemistry major Mia Kang ’17 was selected to present her computational biophysical chemistry research on the differential binding kinetics of small molecules to the influenza protein neuraminidase at a special session of the 249th American Chemical Society (ACS) National Meeting and Exposition in Denver. The special session, known as Sci-Mix, brings together the most interesting and important research from each of 25 sub-divisions of the ACS. Kang was chosen as one of 13 presenters out of the 125 presentations submitted to the Division of Computers in Chemistry.
