  • The 2023-24 academic year wrapped up with the awarding of national fellowships and scholarships, conference presentations, and a Phi Beta Kappa election of 22 seniors.

  • “Validating an algebraic approach to characterizing resonator networks,” co-authored by Viva Horowitz and Trevor Scheuing ’23, was recently published in the journal Scientific Reports.

  • Hamilton students take on unique projects that reflect their talents and interests. In many cases, they collaborate with faculty mentors on this work, which often leads to co-authored papers, joint presentations at professional conferences, and professors mentoring students during academic competitions. Check out what some of our students have been up to recently.

  • Assistant Professor of Physics Viva Horowitz recently presented research at the American Physical Society (APS) March Meeting in Las Vegas. The research focused on developing a new way to interpret data from a network of connected resonators to uncover the underlying physical system. Trevor Scheuing ’23 was a co-author.

  • Assistant Professor of Physics Viva Horowitz was working as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard when she began to take a more serious interest in the dynamics of a cell’s cytoplasm. “In physics, we have equations that allow us to model things and predict how things will move,” Horowitz said. “And it turns out that the cytoplasm completely breaks those rules — there’s motors pushing things around.”

  • The Physics Department is taking learning out of the lab and into the field. Physics 100/200 and Physics 190 classes have been experimenting with launching pressure rockets behind the campus athletic fields. Faculty members Kristen Burson, Viva Horowitz, and Seth Major, and Director of Laboratories/Head Technician Adam Lark are making the most of this outdoor lab to teach the concepts of pressure and distance.
