Visiting Associate Professor of Religious Studies Brent Plate recently published several essays. His work has appeared as a book chapter, in print and in online magazines, as well as on a blog.

A few days shy of the one-year anniversary of Hamilton and Colgate jointly announcing their partnership as new contributing members in the nonprofit, online learning platform edX,  two free online interactive courses led by Hamilton professors will be launched.

Hamilton research projects were featured in letters to the editor in both The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal this week. On Jan. 13, a letter by Visiting Associate Professor of Religious Studies S. Brent Plate and Assistant Professor of Art Robert Knight about their research on the transition of sacred spaces was published by the Journal. A letter by Senior Director of Media Relations Vige Barrie about a Levitt Youth Poll was included in the Jan. 13 edition of the Times.

Opinion pieces, letters to the editor, expert commentaries and studies, book reviews and special projects all contributed to Hamilton’s many appearances in the national media this year. From National Public Radio to The New York Times, USA Today and The Wall Street Journal, faculty and staff submissions and responses to media outlets made the college very visible.

Visiting Associate Professor of Religious Studies Brent Plate participated at several venues during the American Academy of Religion (AAR) conference held Nov. 22-25 in San Diego. The meeting, held alongside the Society for Biblical Literature annual meeting, is the largest gathering of religious studies scholars in the world according to the AAR website.

A documentary film titled “In God’s House: The Religious Landscape of Utica, NY,” had its first public screening in November at the American Academy of Religion meeting in San Diego. Plate was on hand to present the film and answer questions.

Visiting Associate Professor of Religious Studies S. Brent Plate presented several lectures based on his book, A History of Religion in 5 ½ Objects, at colleges and universities this semester.

Barbara Gold (Classics), Steve Yao (English) and Brent Plate (Religious Studies) attended the Meeting of Directors of Humanities Centers at Small Liberal Arts Colleges at Wellesley College on Sept. 27.  This is a subgroup of the CHCI (Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes), an international group of colleges and universities that have (or will have/hope to have) humanities centers.

Visiting Associate Professor of Religious Studies S. Brent Plate participated in the 17th biennial conference of the International Society for Religion, Literature and Culture (ISRLC) held at the Catholic University of Leuven (KU Leuven) in Belgium.

A recent video from Assistant Professor of Art Robert Knight’s project In God's House is featured in GLOBALissues. CLIMATEmatters. SocialCHANGE at ArtRage in Syracuse, N.Y. The exhibition opens Saturday, Sept. 6, with a reception from 7-9 p.m., and continues through Oct. 18.
