Jennie Wilber ’17, Shannon Boley ’17 and Talia Vaughan ’18 presented papers as part of a panel on “American Sacred Space: Constructing and Contesting the Sacred across Cultures” during the annual Eastern International Region meeting of the American Academy of Religion (AAR).

Hamilton College, Colgate University, Davidson College and Wellesley College have formed  a new consortium focused on online teaching and learning in the liberal arts.

Academic achievement prizes, prize scholarships and other recognition of student accomplishments were awarded at Hamilton’s 65th annual Class & Charter Day convocation on Monday, May 11, in Wellin Hall.

Five Hamilton faculty members were recognized for their research and creative successes with the Dean’s Scholarly Achievement Awards, presented by Dean of Faculty Patrick Reynolds on Class & Charter Day on May 11. The awards recognize individual accomplishment but reflect a richness and depth of scholarship and creative activity across the entire faculty.

“Grandma Makes Granola,” an article co-authored by Professor of Mathematics Richard Bedient and Assistant Professor of Mathematics Courtney Gibbons, appeared in the January issue of The College Mathematics Journal. Also in the issue, David Richeson ’93 contributed an article titled “Proof Without Words: The Maximum Sum of Inradii.”

Candice McCardle ’15 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Malaysia. A public policy major she studied abroad in Vietnam, South Africa, and Brazil through the School for International Training’s Honors Program in spring 2014.

Hamilton College’s highest awards for teaching were presented to four faculty members during the annual Class & Charter Day ceremony on May 11. Professor of Classics Shelley Haley was awarded the Samuel & Helen Lang Prize for Excellence in Teaching; Assistant Professor of Mathematics Courtney Gibbons was honored with the John R. Hatch Excellence in Teaching Award; and Max Majireck, assistant professor of chemistry, received the Class of 1963 Excellence in Teaching Award. In addition, Education Studies Program Director Susan Mason received Student Assembly’s Sidney Wertimer Award.

The Hamilton College women’s lacrosse team upset Salisbury University in the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs, winning 9-8 in double overtime on Sunday. The Continentals will play Middlebury College on Saturday, May 16, in a regional semifinal at Gettysburg College.

Hamilton College’s Class & Charter Day celebration, an annual convocation recognizing student and faculty excellence during the preceding academic year, will take place on Monday, May 11, at 4:15 p.m., in Wellin Hall.

Gaining work-related experience through internships is one way of increasing your likelihood of getting hired. However, many students find the hunt for internships to be daunting because they don’t know where to begin. Luckily, the Maurice Horowitch Career and Life Outcomes Center provides students with resources to make this process easier, such as networking workshops, LinkedIn advice, and access to the alumni database. In January, the Career Center launched its newest tool, the Hamilton Peer Internship Network (HPIN).
