  • Students enrolled in government 219 and 221, both taught by Visiting Instructor of Government Andy Milstein, got a feel for such slow-moving and hard-earned developments  in Congress during a weeks-long simulation of the legislative process. The experiment ended on Nov. 29 with a meeting to present and vote on the bills that the students designed.

  • John Yau, writer and associate professor of critical studies at Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts, will read from his work on Thursday, Dec. 1, at 8 p.m., in the Red Pit, KJ. Sponsored by the Dean of Faculty Office, the event is part of the English and creative writing department’s fall reading series. It is free and open to the public.

  • Maurice Isserman, the James L. Ferguson Professor of History, was quoted in a Nov. 27 Chronicle of Higher Education article about a national campaign of student debt refusal. In “Debt Protesters Denounce Colleges for Broken Promises,” Isserman said the Occupy Wall Street movement has rubbed off on college students, who have taken the protest in their own direction.

  • Members of two of Visiting Professor of Government Andy Milstein’s classes—Congress & Legislative Politics and The American Presidency—will be holding a lively mock Senate floor session on Tuesday, Nov. 29, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Red Pit.

  • David LaGuardia, professor of French and comparative literature at Dartmouth College and Hamilton’s scholar in residence, will give a lecture “Two Queens, a Dog, and a Purloined Letter:  on Memory as a Discursive Phenomenon in Late Renaissance France,”  on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 4:15 p.m., in KJ 102.

  • Amit Taneja, director of the Days-Massolo Center, has been honored with a Peace Studies award from The Central New York Peace Studies Board and Peace Studies Conference Committee.  He received the award at the organization’s 23rd annual conference on Nov. 12 in Syracuse.

  • The Hamilton College choir directed by Professor G. Roberts Kolb, will lead a Christmas Service of Lessons and Carols on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 4 p.m., in the Chapel. The service is free and open to the public.

  • The Hamilton College Department of Music presents the Hamilton College and Community Masterworks Chorale and Orchestra (formerly known as the Oratorio Society) on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 8 p.m., in Wellin Hall.

  • The Metropolitan Museum of Art, home to one of the largest and most renowned art collections in the world, was the destination for Hamilton’s students in the New York City program last week. They were treated to a guided tour of the Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary galleries.

  • On the Hill: A Bicentennial History of Hamilton College marks the occasion of Hamilton’s 200th anniversary in 2012.  Written by James L. Ferguson Professor of History Maurice Isserman, it is the first official and full-scale history of the College to be published since 1962, the year of its sesquicentennial. This slide show features some photos from the 400-page book, highlighting important events in the College’s history.
