John Bullock Gross ’80

John Bullock Gross ’80, owner of a computer service business in Tucson, AZ, was born on July 10, 1957. The middle son of William M., a business executive, and Edith Bullock Gross, a professor at Bryn Mawr College, he grew up in Laverock, PA, outside of Philadelphia, and was graduated in 1976 from Cheltenham High School in Wyncote. He entered Hamilton that fall, concentrated in psychology and remained on the Hill for two years.

John Gross ultimately settled in Tucson, where he owned and operated Housecall Computer Services, after having spent many years in automotive sales. Known for his unique sense of humor, he was a man of deep religious faith and a deacon of Craycroft Baptist Church. He counseled prison inmates with addictions in his spare time. His passion was music, and he played regularly with a church band. He also enjoyed four-wheeling in the desert and mountains surrounding Tucson, and spending time with his beloved dogs, Cleo and Zeke.

John B. Gross, who had long struggled with mental illness, took his own life on Dec. 11, 2012. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two brothers, William M., Jr. and Paul H. Gross, as well as a niece and a nephew.
