Course Description: | This course explores the complexities of indigeneity in global contexts, examining how indigeneity is understood and represented through key anthropological and historical debates. Key themes include the question of "who are the indigenous," the epistemology of indigeneity, and the colonial construction of "primitive society." The course also explores debates around indigenous and subaltern agency, colonial encounters, and the relationship between indigeneity and property. Through foundational texts and critical debates both empirical and theoretical, students will engage with how indigeneity is framed in global and historical perspectives. |
