Course Description:

In this course, we will examine how fiction and film about the climate crisis document our anxieties, remediate our ecologies, and reimagine our climate futures. Students will be introduced to the field of ecocriticism while reading and watching across subgenres. Course materials will include contemporary novels, short stories, film, media, and theory. Our class screenings and discussions will be supplemented by visits from writers and filmmakers thinking through the social, ethical, and political implications of making media about the climate crisis. For their final assignment, students will have the opportunity to propose a critical or creative project.
