The Caldwell Family Scholarship
The Caldwell Family Scholarship, established in 2002 by Clarice H. and H. Van Yorx Caldwell, Jr., Class of 1940, is awarded with preference given to students from the Midwest.
Harold Van Yorx "Van" Caldwell, Jr. graduated from Hamilton in 1940. After departing the Hill, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Medical Department of the U.S. Coastal Artillery in Hawaii, became a 2nd Lieutenant with the anti-aircraft gun battalion at Camp Davis, North Carolina, and finished his military service at the New Orleans Army Air Base in 1946. In 1949, he received his M.A. from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. His employment included associate editor for Steel Magazine, until his retirement in 1982. He was known as an "exceptional writer and a clear thinker." He resided in Cincinnati and died in 2001.
