The Robert B. Winkler Scholarship
The Robert B. Winkler Scholarship was established in 1980 by Robert B. Winkler, Class of 1938, and is awarded to students from the state of Wisconsin.
Robert Winkler was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He journeyed east in 1934 to attend Hamilton. On the Hill, he played football and ice hockey, was a member of Chi Psi fraternity and was elected to the DT honor society. He completed a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Wisconsin in 1940. Bob served in World War II as an assistant to General Forrest Harding and was awarded a Silver Star and a Purple Heart. He worked for several years in the engineering industry and retired in 1972 as the president of Durant Digital Instruments Co. based in Milwaukee. Past president of Milwaukee’s Goodwill Industries and The University Club, he also served as a director for the Milwaukee Red Cross. Bob died in 1987.
