The Seventy-Five Year Class Scholarship
The Seventy-Five Year Class Scholarship, established in 1954 by William DeLoss Love II, Class of 1909, whose father was a member of the Class of 1876, is awarded first with preference given to any descendant of a member of the Hamilton Classes of 1874, 1875 or 1876; second to a student from the West Coast; and third, at the discretion of the College.
During his undergraduate years, William DeLoss Love II enjoyed managing the baseball team. He graduated in 1909 and joined the publishing house of Houghton Mifflin. In 1922, he left publishing to become secretary of the National Nut Co. in Oakland, California, where he was eventually promoted to president and general manager. William established this scholarship to honor his father, Archibald Longworth Love, a member of the Class of 1876, who was awarded an honorary D.D. degree from Hamilton in 1899. Several generations of Love family members have graduated from Hamilton.
