The Howard J. Schneider, M.D. Scholarship
The Howard J. Schneider, M.D. Scholarship, established in 1994 in honor of Howard J. Schneider, Class of 1960, is awarded with preference given to a student excelling in science who has also displayed involvement and leadership in extracurricular activities.
In 1994, Doris M. and Ralph E. Hansmann, Class of 1940, established this scholarship in the name of their good friend, Dr. Howard J. Schneider, Class of 1960. While on the Hill, Howard was captain of the football team and majored in biochemistry. He earned his M.D. at the University of Rochester in 1964 before joining the U.S. Army Reserves, where he served for six years. After his discharge as a Captain, Dr. Schneider began a very successful career in ophthalmology in New York City. He and his wife, Sandra Silverman Schneider, have four children, three of whom are Hamilton alumni: Ian ’85, Melissa ’87, and Evan ’90, and a granddaughter, Grace Comnor '18. In 1988, Dr. Schneider became an Alumni Trustee, and was elected as a Life Trustee of the College in 2005.
