The Karen A. Kennedy, M.D. Scholarship
The Karen A. Kennedy, M.D. Scholarship, established in 2000 by her husband, Kevin W. Kennedy, Class of 1970, is awarded with preference to students who intend to go to medical school and who show compassion for members of the Hamilton community.
Karen Elizabeth Andresen Kennedy graduated from Manhattanville College in 1971, with a B.A. in economics. In May of that same year, she and Hamilton graduate Kevin W. Kennedy married. For many years, she worked as a full-time stay-at-home mother. At the age of 37, she entered medical school to realize her lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. She graduated from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1991, and completed a residency in pediatrics. She established her practice, Dr. Karen A. Kennedy Pediatrics, on East 60th Street in Manhattan. By 2000, she had become the director of the Women’s Venture Fund, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to helping women establish thriving businesses in urban areas. Dr. Kennedy and her husband, Chairman Emeritus and a Life Trustee of the College, remain loyal and generous supporters.
