The Anthony and Lilas Hoogkamp Scholarship
The Anthony and Lilas Hoogkamp Scholarship is awarded with preference given first to the son or daughter of a New York State police officer. This scholarship was established in 1994 by Gregory T. Hoogkamp, Class of 1982, in honor of his parents.
Anthony Hoogkamp, born in Albany, N.Y., graduated from the Vincentian Institute, Albany Business College, and the State University of New York Empire State College. After completing his education, Anthony served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957, when he received the First Army Solider of the Month Award. In 1963, he became a trooper for the New York State Police. After three years in this position, he was promoted to senior investigator, and by 1983, he had risen in the ranks to assistant personnel director. He retired in 1992.
In addition to his career as a State Police officer and administrator, Anthony was a member of the E. F. Hart Hose Volunteer Fire Company, in Rensselaer, the New York State Police Benevolent Association, and chairman of the New York State Police Heart Association Fund. Anthony Hoogkamp died in 2003 at age 68. He was survived by his wife, Lilas, a homemaker, and their four children including Gregory "Greg" Hoogkamp, Class of 1982.
Currently a managing director at Goldman Sachs, Inc., Greg majored in economics at Hamilton, while participating in varsity football and staying active in his fraternity, Delta Upsilon. Following his graduation in 1982, he went on to earn an MBA from Harvard in 1987, joining Goldman Sachs that same year. He has served his alma mater in many ways over the years, including as an Admission and Career Center volunteer, Alumni Trustee (2005-09), during which time he chaired the Annual Fund, and as a Charter Trustee since 2010.
