The Gilman S. Burke Scholarship
The Gilman S. Burke Scholarship was established by Gilman S. Burke, Class of 1954 and a former Trustee of the College.
Gilman S. Burke graduated from Hamilton in 1954, and then served as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps until 1957. He earned a law degree from Harvard Law School in 1960. He retired in 2013 as counsel to the law firm of Satterlee Stephens Burke & Burke, LLP in New York City, where he was a co-managing partner for 12 years. His practice focused on corporate matters with particular attention to private international transactions. He and his firm represented numerous foreign banks seeking to establish offices in the U.S. With his wife, Sarah, Gilman helped found the West Side Montessori School in Manhattan, which is still thriving today.
