The Wayland F. Blood '53 Family Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1994 in honor of Wayland P. Blood, Class of 1914, by his family and friends. The name was changed in 2020 to recognize the passing of Wayland ("Bill") F. Blood, Class of 1953. Bill was particularly proud of Hamilton as a school of opportunity.
Wayland P. Blood was born in Albion, New York. After graduating from Hamilton in 1914, he attended Harvard, where he earned a Master’s degree in history and government. He then served as First Lieutenant in the Army Air Force Service during World War I. After returning home as a distinguished veteran, he took over his father’s business, D.W. Blood Real Estate Agency, in Cushing Square. Although he was a skilled businessman, he was famous in many academic circles for his intense and life-long interest in Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War. His wealth of knowledge on the subject made him a noteworthy and much sought-after speaker. He passed away in 1975.
Other family members associated with the College include his son, Wayland F. Blood, Class of 1953 and grandson, David W. Blood, Class of 1981.
