The Gene O’Connell Scholarship
The Gene O’Connell Scholarship was established by James P. O’Connell, Class of 1978, and his wife, Nan Gillespie O’Connell, in honor of Eugene F. O’Connell, a beloved father and mentor.
This Fund was established by James P. O’Connell, Class of 1978, and his wife, Nan Gillespie O’Connell, Princeton University Class of 1983, in honor of Eugene F. O’Connell, a beloved father and mentor.
A second generation American, Gene was raised in a humble home where kindness, honesty, and selflessness were practiced on the backbone of Christian tenets. While raising his own children, Gene emphasized these qualities with an important addition: a life of service. Gene was happiest helping others as evidenced by his lifetime of volunteer work.
College provided Gene a combination of faith and skills that made him a successful parent, colleague, and friend. He attended the College of the Holy Cross with full financial assistance, and was ever thankful for the opportunities that Holy Cross presented. The only one of six siblings to attend college, Gene never forgot the financial support that made that journey possible. This scholarship is established to provide a similar possibility to Hamilton students.
Please note: The named scholarships profiled on these pages support the College’s generous need-based financial aid commitment. These donor-funded scholarships help ensure the Hamilton promise of keeping education affordable through meeting a student’s full demonstrated financial need.
