Dear Hamilton Community,
I know intuitively – and from the physics course I took in high school – that time does not stand still, but it has certainly felt that way since February when I was named Hamilton’s next president. The past five months have passed too slowly as Dana and I eagerly anticipated our move to Upstate New York. We are excited to begin working with you to continue Hamilton’s evolution as an intentional and courageous learning community with an outsized impact on our democracy.
I begin my tenure by thanking all those who have reached out with well wishes, suggestions, and expressions of welcome. David Wippman, in particular, has been an enormous source of advice and support as I began immersing myself in the College’s history, traditions, priorities and – most importantly – its people. I’m grateful for his generous and collaborative spirit, and the hours we have spent together talking about Hamilton. It’s clear that I am following a highly effective leader whose genuine commitment to the College’s students, faculty, staff, and alumni is evident in Hamilton’s standing and success.
In the coming weeks, I plan to be out meeting as many people as possible. I’m looking forward to participating in next week’s community luncheon, for example, and visiting different offices across campus. Please introduce yourself and tell me what you do at Hamilton and share something surprising or new that you learned about Hamilton in your first few months. I’m also eager to interact with students who are in Clinton this summer conducting research, interning, and participating in our Opportunity Programs.
Even though I’m eager to get going, I know many of you are catching up from a busy and productive year. Please enjoy the extra rest and relaxation that the summer provides.
Onward for Hamilton!
Steven
