Dear Members of the Hamilton Community,
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine represents one of the most flagrant breaches of the fundamental norms governing the international order since the United Nations Charter was signed in 1945, and it has created a humanitarian and geopolitical crisis that is just beginning. To help grapple with the implications of this tragic and alarming event, several programs open to the entire Hamilton community will take place over the next few days.
A vigil to support the people of Ukraine will be held this Thursday, March 3, at 5:30 p.m. in the Chapel. “Candles for Ukraine” is being sponsored by the Hamilton College Young Democratic Socialists of America.
Please also plan to attend the Levitt Center-sponsored program, “Crisis in Ukraine,” featuring a panel of Hamilton faculty experts: Sol M. Linowitz Visiting Professor of International Affairs Robin Quinville, Henry Platt Bristol Professor of International Relations Alan Cafruny, and Professor of Government Sharon Rivera. The program will take place this Friday, March 4, at noon in the Fillius Events Barn.
The Alumni Office is also working on two virtual events pertaining to the war. Details are still being finalized, so please watch your email for dates, times, speakers, and information on how to participate.
On behalf of the College, I offer our community’s sympathy and support to those students, alumni, parents, faculty, and staff who have family or friends in Ukraine or are otherwise directly affected.
David
