Hamilton College's Rachel Bennek '07 (Clermont, N.Y./Red Hook HS) was selected to the 2007 Academic All-District Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on June 7.
Bennek was voted to the College Division's Second Team for District I. She is one of 22 student-athletes on the all-district teams from Division II and III schools located in New England and New York state. The academic all-district team is part of the academic All-America program sponsored by ESPN The Magazine.
Bennek earned all-conference honors in the 400-meter run at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and Liberty League outdoor championship meets in 2007. She made the all-New York State team in the 800 meters. Bennek set the school outdoor record in the 400 with a time of 59.46 seconds at the ECAC meet.
During the 2007 indoor season, Bennek won the 400 meters at the Liberty League championships and was all-state in the 400. She owns Hamilton's indoor record in the event with a time of 59.78 seconds. Bennek was part of a school record in the 1,600-meter relay this season and she set the existing school record in the 500 meters in 2006. She is a mathematics major.
Student-athletes need to meet several eligibility requirements to be considered for the academic All-America team. The student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for her career. No athlete is eligible until she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at her current institution.
