The Hamilton College Continentals gave up a late goal and fell 1-0 against nationally ranked No. 22 Williams College (10-2-2, 7-2-1 NESCAC) in NESCAC action and the regular-season finale for both teams at Williams' Cole Field on Tuesday.

Box score

Hamilton (5-6-3, 1-6-3) is still in eighth place in the NESCAC standings but a win by Colby College, Bates College or Connecticut College on Wednesday, Oct. 30, would drop the Continentals out of the top eight and eliminate them from any postseason chances.

Six saves by Liza Gergenti ’14 helped keep Hamilton -- which was outshot 18-7 -- in a scoreless tie until the 77th minute. The Ephs' Audrey Thomas ’17 took a pass from Katie Wardlaw ’17 and fired a point-blank shot past Gergenti for the game’s only goal with 13:44 left in the second half.

Hannah Van Wetter ’15 made five saves for Williams, which clinched the second seed in the conference championship with the victory. She stopped a shot by Hamilton’s Becca Rees ’16 in the 60th minute, diving to her right to knock the ball out of bounds.

The Continentals allowed three goals in their final six games and didn't allow any of those opponents to score more than one goal.
