Williams College broke a 1-1 tie with a goal midway through the third period, and the Ephs went on to a 2-1 win against Hamilton College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game at Hamilton's Russell Sage Rink on Feb. 5.
Riley Smith ‘12 scored an unassisted goal at 9:49 of the first period. Becca Hazlett ’13 turned aside 31 shots in 58 minutes, 59 seconds in goal. The Continentals (7-8-3 overall, 2-6-3 NESCAC) played with an empty net for the final 1:01 in an attempt to secure the tying goal. They fired one shot on goal with the extra skater.
Smith scored her fourth goal of the season to make the score 1-0. Williams (10-7-3, 7-3-1) tied the score with just 11 seconds remaining in the opening period. The Ephs broke the tie 11:02 into the third period as they capitalized on a power play.
Williams held a 33-20 advantage in shots on goal. The Continentals were 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Ephs were 1-for-6.
The Continentals return to action on Saturday, Feb. 6, when they host Middlebury College for another NESCAC game at 3 p.m.
