Connecticut College scored two short-handed goals in the third period that lifted the Camels to a 5-4 win over Hamilton College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game played at Conn. College's Dayton Arena on Feb. 12.
 
Katie Zimmerman ’13 scored a pair of goals to lead Hamilton (9-9-3 overall, 3-7-3 NESCAC). Stephanie Miguel ‘11 chipped in one goal and one assist, and Becky Cairns ‘11 scored the other goal. Becca Hazlett ‘13 stopped 29 shots in the loss.
 
Conn. College (7-12-2, 4-7-2) got on the scoreboard first with a power-play goal 6:25 into the first period. Zimmerman tied the score with her first goal of the night with 3:28 left in the first. Miguel and Christie Sharlow ‘11 were credited with assists. Sharlow recorded her 50th career point on the play.
 
The Continentals opened the second period with a Miguel goal off an assist from Laura Stirrat ’10 to make the score 2-1 at 2:46. It was Miguel’s ninth goal of the season.
 
With 10:49 remaining, the Camels tied the score with another power-play goal. They launched a shot from the blue line that Hazlett was able to get a piece of, but one of the Camels tipped in the rebound on Hazlett’s stick side at the left post. With 6:50 remaining, the Camels took the lead for good with their third power-play goal.

In the third period, the Camels intercepted a pass near the blue line on the penalty kill and buried a short-handed goal to make it 4-2 at 1:17. Hamilton did not go away as Zimmerman got one back with 6:57 remaining to make it 4-3. It was Zimmerman’s ninth goal of the season. Kristen Pallen ‘12 and Rachel Rapoza ‘10 were credited with assists.
 
The Continentals had one last chance to tie the score when one of the Camels was sent to the box with 1:43 remaining. Hamilton used a timeout to empty their goal and gain a two-skater advantage in the offensive zone. But Conn. College was able to add a second short-handed goal with 27 seconds remaining. Cairns scored on the power play -- her fourth goal of the season -- with just one second left. Laura DiCarlo ‘12 earned the assist on the final goal.

Conn. College was 3-for-6 on the power play, while Hamilton was 1-for-6. The Camels held a 34-29 advantage in shots on goal, including 17-5 in the pivotal second period.
 
The two teams will play again Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
