Hamilton College rowers claimed second place in the varsity eight at the Hobart & William Smith College Challenge on the Canal Regatta in Geneva, N.Y., on Oct. 13.

Hamilton's "A" entry in the seven-boat race finished in 17:35 on the 4,200-meter course. William Smith won the event with a time of 17:06. Hamilton "A" trailed Rochester Institute of Technology by one second midway through the race, but buried RIT by 24 seconds in the final results.

Britt Freitag '08 was the coxswain, Catrin Jones '08 was stroke and Annie Bowler '08 was in the bow seat. Seats seven through two (in descending order) were occupied by: Jane Fieldhouse '10, Katie Goodwin '08, Bridget Moore '08, Theresa Allinger '11, Maureen Davis '10 and Sarah Henochowicz '08.

The varsity "B" entry ended up sixth in 18:51. Coxswain was Ana Maria Diaz '10, stroke was Kendall Scott '10 and Bret Lineberry '11 was in the bow seat. Seats seven through two (in descending order) were occupied by: Hannah Mauck '10, Pam Lewis '11, Jenn Anderson '10, Lily Ericsson '10, Katya Adair '10 and Sash Amarasuriya '11.

Hamilton once again entered two boats in the varsity four race. The "B" entry was four seniors and Fieldhouse in the bow seat. Freitag was coxswain, Jones was stroke, Henochowicz was three-seat and Goodwin was two-seat. That boat finished third of nine with a time of 17:58. Hamilton passed two boats that were ahead of it at the halfway point. William Smith was first in 17:20.

Hamilton's "A" entry was sixth with a time of 19:00. Diaz was coxswain, Scott was stroke and Lineberry was in the bow seat. Anderson was three-seat and Helen Quigley '10 was two-seat.

Four boats competed in the novice four and Hamilton finished second with a time of 23:12. William Smith won the race in 21:55. Catherine Florea '11 was coxswain, Pam Lewis '11 was stroke and Amarasuriya was in the bow seat. Katya Adair '10 was three-seat and Christine Raia '10 was two-seat.

Hamilton travels to Boston for the Head of the Charles Regatta this weekend. The two-day event begins on Saturday, Oct. 20.
