Associate Professor of Mathematics Courtney Gibbons recently started a new volunteer position as Chair of the Government Advocacy Committee with the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM). She has been an elected member of the AWM for several years and currently sits on the organization’s Education and Outreach committee.
Since the fall of 2022, Gibbons has been a Science and Technology Fellow through an American Association for the Advancement of Science program that places fellows with the U.S. government to share their scientific training with policymakers. She currently is with the National Science Foundation as an executive branch fellow.
Of her added role with AWM, Gibbons says she “can’t wait to get some mathematicians onto the Hill to engage lawmakers and their staffs.”
