A number of special events are planned to coincide with home basketball and women's ice hockey games this weekend at Hamilton College.

Members of the Class of 2011 will be honored during Senior Day ceremonies for both basketball teams and the women's ice hockey team on Saturday, Feb. 19. Women's basketball hosts Rensselaer at 2 p.m. and the men will start at approximately 4. Women's hockey takes on Wesleyan University at 3 p.m.

Both basketball teams plan to wear pink shirts on Friday, Feb. 18, during their pre-game warmup in support of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone endeavor and raise awareness for breast cancer. The women's basketball programs will be printed on pink paper. The women play Vassar College at 6 p.m. and the men tip off with Vassar at 8.

One person will have the opportunity to make a shot from halfcourt for $10,000 during halftime of both basketball games on Friday. Hamilton's FebFest committee will sell raffle tickets during the first half of both games, and one ticket will be chosen at random at the end of each first half. All proceeds will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund for women's cancer research.

The men's basketball program is joining a number of Liberty League basketball teams in a Sponsor A Soldier Drive in conjunction with this weekend's league games. On Saturday, players will wear the name of a current or former member of the U.S. military on special edition shoot-around shirts.

The shirts bear the logo of Soldiers’ Angles, a volunteer-led, non-profit organization that provides aid and comfort to the men and women of the U.S. Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, veterans and their families. After the games, the shirts, along with a letter of appreciation, will be sent to the service member, whose name appears on the back.
