“Using students as pawns makes the world less safe for everyone,” wrote Associate Dean of Admission and Director of International Recruitment Anna Wise in “Russian students should not be punished for Putin’s aggression,” her op-ed in the April 21 issue of Times Higher Ed. Wise detailed the trials of both Russian and Ukrainian students and expressed the fallacy of punishing Russian students over the decisions of their leader.
“The most recent data tell us that there were 4,805 Russian students in the US in 2020-21. This population is not large, but each one of those students has goals and dreams that should be respected,” Wise wrote.
