Two Hamilton College athletes were honored by the Liberty League on Feb. 21 when the league announced its weekly award winners.
Greg Newton '14 (Barrington, R.I./Phillips Exeter Academy [N.H.]) was a men's basketball co-rookie of the week pick for the second straight week. Sam Reider '14 (Slingerlands, N.Y./Bethlehem Central HS) earned a men's track and field co-rookie of the week selection for the third time.
Newton averaged 12 points, 2 assists and 1 steal in three games off the bench last week. The 6-foot guard shot 66.7 percent (16-24) from the floor. He dropped in a season-high 17 points in a 69-56 loss at nationally ranked No. 4 Middlebury College on Feb. 14. Newton is ranked third in the league with 2.82 assists per game.
Reider took 12th place in the 400-meter dash at Cornell University's non-team scoring, multi-divisional Marc Deneault Memorial Invitational on Feb. 19. His time of 51.58 seconds was good for third among Division III athletes.
