In her keynote session, “Disciplinary Differences in Oral Communication,” Gaffney focused on important considerations for successful oral communication in a variety of disciplines, including science, engineering, medicine, business, arts, social science, and architecture, and how this impacts student learning and assessment in undergraduate courses.
Gaffney also presented a workshop in which participants shared discussed practices that helped students in their individual disciplines succeed in oral communication and how courses could be improved. She worked with the participants to create a summary of the similarities and differences in their various disciplines and courses.
