Hamilton College graduate Ryan Mulligan '08 has recently made history when he became the first American Rugby League player to export his talents down-under. Mulligan, standing just less than 6ft. and weighing 220 lb., recently signed with the South Newcastle Knights in New South Wales as the first in what could become a regular player exchange. According to South Newcastle President Tim Butler, "We want their players to come over here and vice versa…We can hopefully set up an exchange between us and the American teams."
Mulligan, who made his debut for the American Tomahawks national team in 2008 against Samoa, said, "Obviously it's a lot more professional here, but that's the reason I came here in the first place." At Hamilton, the New Jersey native was a member of the Men's Lacrosse team and often lent his expert services to the Hamilton Men's Rugby team. A History major at Hamilton, Mulligan is also using his time abroad to continue his interest in law by working at UTR Law in Newcastle.
