In 1982, Dr. Moses founded the Algebra Project, a national nonprofit agency that uses mathematics as an organizing tool to ensure quality public school education for America's children. Previously, Dr. Moses acted as field organizer for the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), and as director of the Mississippi Project, an activist initiative of the SNCC Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, which famously challenged the legitimacy of the regular delegates from Mississippi at the 1964 Democratic National Convention in Atlantic City, N.J.
Dr. Moses will speak on "Sustaining King's 1968 Dream into a 2008 Reality." He will address the implications of the historic election of Barack Obama in November 2008. He will also share his experiences as a civil rights activist.
While at Hamilton, Dr. Moses was selected for Doers and Thinkers, a selective honor society. After graduation, he earned a master's degree in philosophy from Harvard University. He has received numerous honorary degrees from institutions such as Hamilton College, Haverford College, and DePaul's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
