Two articles by Associate Professor of East Asian Languages Zhuoyi Wang are included in the current issue of the journal Chinese Literature Today.
“Transforming the Liminal Hero: Border-Crossing Interconnections in The Taking of Tiger Mountain and Its Textual Pedigree” and “The Spectral Space beyond Borders in Recent Chinese Films” appear in the cinema section, with the latter serving as the introduction to the section.
Wang gave an invited talk based on “Transforming the Liminal Hero” for New York University’s Cinema Studies Department in April. According to its abstract, the paper “attempts to offer a more nuanced perspective” on the 3-D remake of the 1970 Maoist revolutionary opera Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy.
